5 out of 5 stars Fab results   August 18, 2008
Had a breadmaker several years ago, and the loaves turned out like bricks, but decided to give it another go, as the price of bread in the shops has rocketed. Selected the Panasonic because of the positive write ups on Amazon. It's FAB. The Xlarge loaf I find difficult to cut as it's too tall to grip, but the large loaf is just perfect. The loaves come out with a good crust and a light texture inside. Also tried several of the cake recipes - Cherry and Marzipan and the Boozy cake - both went down well. Tried the dough only for bread rolls, which was good and the pizza dough, which made four individual pizzas (my family all like different toppings!) My advice would be to buy and try for yourself.

5 out of 5 stars home made bread from the Panasonic SD255   August 9, 2008
So far so good! infact now two days in to receiving my machine I am already making bread for friends. The machine is very easy to use and seems to produce good bread even if you make a few mistakes? Only issue is that the instruction book seems a little basic, especially when it comes to setting the cooking cycles? it leaves you unsure that you have set it correctly. Otherwise I would say its a fantastic addition to the kitchen.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent.   August 4, 2008
Excellent machine, I concur with the other reviewers. Makes bread making easy.

One flaw: the beeping when it's done is pretty quiet, if you're not in the room with the machine, you're likely not to hear it. And since the bread needs to be taken out right away, this is unfortunate.

3 out of 5 stars Not a bad bread maker   July 29, 2008
For the price I would have hoped for a few more features found on many of the cheaper bread makers on the market. It does not have a Keep Warm option, doesn't have a viewing window, and doesn't have a Jam making setting. The unit is quite straight forward to use and has got lots of bread options. So far we haven't managed to get a good loaf out of it even though we've followed the instructions and measurements very carefully. Compared to the older breadmaker we borrowed from a friend we are a little disappointed. However, there are many factors that can cause this and we've yet to experiment with the flour and yeast brands and adjusting the quantities. Style, design and useability is good and so far it seems to be very quiet. However the lack of a Jam program is a disappointment. Hopefully the bread quality will eventually improve with some adjustments.

5 out of 5 stars 16 years of use!   July 28, 2008

I've been using a Panasonic bread maker daily for 16 years. My first one cost 220 back then. It's a fantastic machine. My three top tips are:
Don't use more than 25% wholemeal flour unless you like a rather heavy loaf.
For a really tasty change, add 2 tablespoons each of sunflower and pumpkin seeds and use the Raisin bake programme.
Try it with a sourdough starter. It works on the French loaf programme but is even better on the French Dough programme. When it has finished, just let it carry on rising and then use the bake only programme for 50mins.
